about inspire

INSPIRE is a unique event designed specifically for families with children or adults who are deaf or hard of hearing. You will have the opportunity to interact with other families like yours and share your experiences. Parents will be invited to workshops to learn about rights and resources for themselves or their children. Time will be provided for kids and families to enjoy outdoor events like hiking, canoeing, and exploring the farm at Camp McDowell. All communication modes will be welcome, and interpreters will be present.  With this weekend of interaction, education, rest, growth, and signing, each family will leave inspired and ready to return to daily life

We value

American Sign Language and English

“We are at a new juncture in history, in which the critical mass of scientific discoveries allows us to state conclusively that there is no need to choose between languages - it is better to choose both languages. We now know that the need for ASL has not decreased, but is greater and more urgent than ever in order for deaf children to gain all possible biological, cognitive, and language advantages. Offering a deaf child both ASL and English, spoken and written, is the greatest gift anyone can give to that child, to the child's family, and to our world.”

Gallaudet University president, Roberta “Bobbi” Cordano. April 6, 2016

"Deaf-Gain"

The belief that the deaf experience is not merely a lack of hearing, but one that includes a language, a culture, and a way of life that is beneficial and valuable to the individual, and provides benefit to the world at large.
